OUTREACH PROGRAM ON ENHANCING MEMORY TECHNIQUES

Date: 3 February 2025

The Department of Humanities (Psychology) organized one day outreach activity to train high school students on ‘Enhancing Memory Techniques’ in preparation for their exams. The session was conducted on 11th February 2025, from 2 PM to 4 PM, at M S Ramaiah High School. The event was coordinated by Ms. Varsha S. Deshpande, with seven BA psychology students facilitating the training. The program aimed to equip psychology students with hands-on experience in developing and implementing training modules, fostering social responsibility, and helping school students enhance their memory and learning efficiency. The BA students were divided into two groups: Group 1 trained 8th-standard students, while Group 2 worked with 9th-standard students. The sessions were interactive, engaging students through exercises and discussions, making learning enjoyable and practical. To encourage academic preparedness, transparent pouches and pens were distributed to school students. The outreach initiative provided BA students with valuable teaching experience, while school students gained effective memory enhancement strategies. The program successfully bridged classroom learning with real-world application, reinforcing the role of psychology in education and social impact.

STUDENTS VISIT HOME FOR THE AGED, GAIN INSIGHTS INTO ELDERLY CARE AND EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING

Date: 15 July 2025

In a meaningful educational field visit held on Monday morning, students visited a local Home for the Aged to understand the emotional and psychological aspects of ageing. The visit began at 9:30 a.m. with an orientation session led by a nun from the organisation, who introduced the students to the history, founders, and purpose of the institution. Following the introduction, the students toured the facility and interacted with several residents. The conversations offered a glimpse into the lives of elderly individuals who have been abandoned by their families and now depend on the care and support provided by the home. Many of the residents shared their personal stories, health conditions, and the circumstances that brought them to the institution. The visit provided students with practical insights into Developmental Psychology, helping them connect theoretical concepts to real-life experiences. Observing the physical and emotional challenges faced by the elderly, students reflected on issues such as loneliness, neglect, and the need for compassion-driven care. Faculty members accompanying the group noted that such visits encourage empathy and social awareness among students. The session also emphasized the importance of community involvement and emotional support for the elderly, many of whom struggle with illnesses and a lack of familial connection.
