The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at M.S. Ramaiah College of Arts, Science and Commerce (Autonomous) organized a two-day hands-on workshop for III Sem MSc Biochemistry students, on “Clinical Diagnostic Techniques – Practical Skills for Future Biochemists” on 27th and 28th October 2025 coordinated by Dr. Nandini S and Ms. Malini M.R., and conducted by Dr. Krishna Murthy U., Professor and Head, Department of Biochemistry, Ramaiah Medical College.


Guest Lecture on “The Social Life of Metals: Introduction to Coordination Chemistry”

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry organized a Guest Lecture titled “The Social Life of Metals: Introduction to Coordination Chemistry” on 12 March 2026 at the Kuvempu Seminar Hall. The program was conducted for B.Sc. IV Semester Chemistry students with the objective of introducing them to the basic principles and significance of coordination chemistry and its applications in various scientific fields.

The invited speaker for the session was Mr. Debopam Sarkar, Prime Minister’s Research Fellow (PMRF) from the Department of Solid State and Structural Chemistry, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.


Guest Lecture

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry organized a guest lecture for the VI Semester B.Sc. students on 10 March 2026 at Kuvempu Seminar Hall from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The lecture was delivered by Nikhil R. Gandasi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Developmental Biology and Genetics at Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, India. He is also serving as Adjunct Faculty at the Institute of Medical Cell Biology, Uppsala University, Sweden.

The topic of the lecture was “Can we understand diabetes in a single cell perspective – Changes and possible treatment strategies.” The session was organized with the objective of helping students understand the cellular mechanisms involved in Diabetes Mellitus and to introduce them to modern research approaches used in studying the disease at the single-cell level.The lecture concluded with a brief interaction session where students clarified their doubts and discussed research opportunities with the speaker.

Overall, the guest lecture was a successful and enriching academic event that provided students with exposure to cutting-edge research and real-world applications of biochemistry and cell biology.


Career Guidance Programme “Igniting Scientific Futures: Career Pathways for B.Sc. Graduates”

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry organized a comprehensive Career Guidance Programme titled “Igniting Scientific Futures: Career Pathways for B.Sc. Graduates” on 23 February 2026 at the Kuvempu Seminar Hall. The programme was conducted for B.Sc. final-year students with the objective of enhancing their awareness of the various academic, research, and professional opportunities available after graduation. The invited speaker, Debopam Sarkar, a PMRF Fellow from the Solid State and Structural Chemistry Unit, delivered a detailed and inspiring session drawing from his own academic experience and expertise in scientific research.


Workshop on Analytical Instrumentation for Chemical and Biochemical Research

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry successfully conducted a two-day intensive workshop titled “Analytical Instrumentation for Chemical and Biochemical Research” on January 22 & 23, 2026. Designed specifically for II Semester B.Sc. students, the program aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and hands-on laboratory expertise. The event was structured to provide a comprehensive deep-dive into the tools that power modern scientific discovery. By exposing students to industrial standards at AknowlyticQ Academy, the workshop successfully equipped them with the practical skills necessary for future careers in academic research and the pharmaceutical industry. "Practical training is the cornerstone of scientific excellence. This workshop has empowered our students to transition from learners to practitioners."


Analytical Method Development by HPLC and GC Technique

On January 21, 2026, the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry hosted an insightful guest lecture tailored for II Semester BSc students. The session, held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Kuvempu Seminar Hall, focused on the practical and theoretical nuances of modern chromatography. The session was led by Mr. Rajesh Kumar K, Director of AknowlyticQ Academy, who brought extensive industry expertise to the academic setting who discussed on HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) and GC (Gas Chromatography) with step-by-step breakdown of how analytical methods are conceived, optimized, and validated to meet industry standards.


Bridging the Gap between Academia and Industry

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry organized a Guest Lecture on the topic “Bridging the Gap between Academia and Industry” on 25/09/25 from 12:00 PM to 01:30 PM at the Seminar Hall, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry for V Semester BSc students. The session was delivered by Ms. Shruthi K Murthy, Head of Partnership, Clini Launch & WILA.

The program commenced with a formal welcome and introduction of the guest by the Head of the Department. In her talk, the speaker highlighted the differences and connections between academic learning and industrial practices. She emphasized the importance of skill development, adaptability, problem-solving, and communication skills required in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. Real-world examples were shared to guide students on becoming industry-ready during their academic tenure.

The session was highly interactive, where students actively participated by raising queries related to career opportunities, internships, and industry collaborations. The program concluded with a vote of thanks followed by the presentation of a memento to the guest.


Exploring Human Physiology through the Lens of Drosophila Research

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry organized an insightful guest lecture on the topic "Exploring Human Physiology through the Lens of Drosophila Research" on 01/09/25. The event was part of our ongoing efforts to expose students to emerging trends in biomedical research and model organism studies. The lecture was delivered by Mr.Rounab Sarkar, a renowned researcher in the field of genetics, human physiology and molecular biology from Indian Institute of Science (IISc).

The primary aim of the lecture was to highlight how the model organism Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly) has significantly contributed to our understanding of human physiology, disease mechanisms, and developmental biology. The talk aimed to bridge classical model organism research with modern biomedical applications


Use of Ultrasound in Organic Synthesis

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry organized a Guest lecture on ”Use of Ultrasound in organic synthesis” on 09/04/25 from 11:00am to 1:00pm by Dr M.A.PASHA,former UGC-BSR Faculty fellow and former chairman, Bangalore university, at Kumempu Seminar Hall.

MSRCASC. In his talk sir highlighted about, Using of ultrasound in organic synthesis, also known as sonochemistry, offers benefits like faster reactions, higher yields, milder conditions, and enhanced selectivity, making it a valuable & approach for organic chemists.


One-Day Workshop organized by CIIRC-Centre for Incubation, Innovation, Research and Consultancy

I and III Semester MSc Biochemistry students from Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, M S Ramaiah College of Arts, Science and Commerce-Autonomous participated an enriching One-Day Workshop on 09/01/2025 organized by CIIRC-Centre for Incubation, Innovation, Research and Consultancy, a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization recognized by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, GoI. A joint initiative by Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri, and Jyothi Institute of Technology. This workshop brought together 35 students and faculty members, Dr. Bharath K Devendra and Ms. Tanisha Rathore, for an incredible hands-on learning experience. The workshop, conducted in the Cell and Molecular Biology Lab and the Food Technology Lab, featured expert guidance from:Dr. Roopa Reddy (Cell and Molecular Biology), Dr. Ravikumar K. (Food technology). The students gained valuable insightsand practical exposure, enhancing their skills in Cell and molecular biology and food technology. Such workshops foster innovation, critical thinking and a sprit of research among budding biochemists.

A joint initiative by Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri, and Jyothi Institute of Technology. This workshop was coordinated by Dr. Bharath K Devendra and Dr. Panchami H R, for an incredible hands-on learning experience. The workshop, conducted in the Nanotechnology and Material Science Lab featured expert guidance from Dr. Kathyayini Nagaraju and followed by Research labs tour.

Assistant Professor and Coordinator, PG-Department of Chemistry, Vijaya College, Bengaluru for MSc Organic Chemistry students on 13.02.2025 to provide an in-depth understanding of modern spectroscopic methods used in structural determination. The session aimed to bridge theoretical concepts with practical applications in research and industry.

It was conducted in two sessions: Session 1: Job Opportunities and Carrer Growth: Your path to success and Top 5 Mahawin Techniques to Overcome Stress by Dr. Mallesha K, Founder Director & Scientist Mahawin, Bengaluru. Session-2: Master your day with Top 5 Time management Techniques and Resume writing by Mr. G M Kulkarni, Consultant and Corporate Trainer in leadership, personality development & a motivational speaker. Students took the benefit of it by interacting with experts.

The workshop entitled “Workshop on Intellectual Properties Rights and IP management for startups” featured distinguished speakers, included Prof. Chandrasekhar S. Bajagur, Dean and professor [Retd] CUK, Karnataka, former employee of IISc, GE, Shell Tech centre Bengaluru, Karnataka and Dr. Tarakranjan Gupta, senior principal engineer, water innovation and IP strategy \, Exploratory and Innovation Vantive Healthcare limited. Participants included faculty members, researchers, entrepreneurs and PG life science and MCom students keen on understanding intellectual property from a strategic perspective. This program was coordinated by Dr. Hareesh P Kumar.
