NSS Vishesha Vaarshika Shibira 2025: DNA Extraction Demonstration
On 4th March 2025, the National Service Scheme (NSS) organized Vishesha Vaarshika Shibira 2025 at Kaiwara for school students. As part of the outreach activity, the Department of Genetics conducted a live demonstration on “Extraction of DNA from a Plant Source.”
Students were introduced to the basic concept of DNA extraction using banana fruit juice and chilled ethanol, during which the precipitated DNA was observed as a white, cotton-like mass. The interactive session helped students understand that DNA is present in all living organisms, sparking curiosity and scientific interest. The activity served as an effective platform for experiential learning and science outreach.
