Faculty development program on Intellectual Property Rights
On 19th Nov 2024, an FDP in association with Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS) – Dept. of Atomic Energy was conducted and Ms. Bhargavi, Researcher, Trustee at Environment support group, India, delivered on ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ emphasized the role of IPR and earning credit and protection for the discovery and innovative idea made through IPR. She introduced the basics of IPR and highlighted the issue of biopiracy- the exploitation of biological resources or traditional knowledge without proper authorization or benefit-sharing. For instance, she explained how India has faced biopiracy of neem, basmati rice, and turmeric by foreign entities. She also discussed genetically modified crops like Bt cotton and Bt brinjal, emphasizing more on the ethical, biodiversity, and patenting concerns associated with them. Ms. Bhargavi stressed the need for stronger laws, ethical practices, and sustainable development to combat biopiracy, protect
India’s biodiversity, and respect indigenous knowledge. This fight underscores the global need to safeguard cultural and natural heritage.
Inauguration and Orientation Program for Undergraduate Students
The Inauguration and Orientation Program for newly admitted undergraduate students was conducted on 16th July 2025, followed by orientation sessions from 17th to 19th July 2025, at MS Ramaiah College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Bengaluru. The program aimed to warmly welcome first-year students and familiarize them with the academic environment, institutional values, and support systems to ensure a smooth transition into college life.
The inaugural session was held at the Apex Block Auditorium and commenced with the Ramaiah Anthem, invocation, and lighting of the lamp. The Principal welcomed the students and parents, highlighting the institution’s legacy, academic excellence, and commitment to holistic development. The Chief Guest inspired students with motivational insights, emphasizing goal setting, discipline, and perseverance. University rank holders and students excelling in sports and NCC were felicitated, encouraging academic and extracurricular excellence.
The academic orientation sessions provided students with a detailed overview of the curriculum structure, credit system, examination and assessment patterns, attendance requirements, and the academic calendar. Students were also introduced to digital learning platforms such as the Lanquill Portal and Linways to support blended learning.
Faculty representatives briefed students on campus facilities and support services, including library resources, IT services, sports and cultural clubs, career guidance and placement cell, counselling services, and grievance redressal mechanisms. The discipline committee explained the code of conduct, attendance norms, ethical behaviour, and anti-ragging policies, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to a safe and inclusive campus.
An interactive session allowed students and parents to seek clarifications regarding academics, scholarships, hostels, and campus life. Overall, the program was well received, leaving students motivated, confident, and prepared to embark on their undergraduate journey.
