NSS MOTO- "NOT ME BUT YOU"

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian -sponsored public service program conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India which was begun in 1969. Its primary aim is personality development through social (or community) service.

NSS is the one of the major activities of MSRCASC. MSRCASC-NSS activities offer opportunities for students to learn the values of teamwork, individual and group responsibility, physical strength and endurance, competition, diversity, and a sense of culture and community. Extracurricular activities provide a channel for reinforcing the lessons learned in the classroom, offering students the opportunity to apply academic skills in a real-world context, and are thus considered part of a well-rounded education. Such kind of participation in extracurricular activities may increase students' sense of engagement or attachment to their institution.

The students of MSRCASC are involved in the various services under the guidance of NSS officers and members of the committee. The events and activities conducted by NSS aims to inculcate social welfare in students, and to provide service to society without bias. NSS volunteers work to ensure that everyone who is needy gets help to enhance their standard of living and lead a life of dignity. In doing so, volunteers learn from people in villages how to lead a good life despite a scarcity of resources.

The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are:

  • Understand the community in which they work.
  • ? Understand themselves in relation to their community.
  • Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving.
  • To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
  • ? Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.
  • Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities.
  • Gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
  • Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.
  • Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and
  • Practice national integration and social harmony.

Coverage;

Started initially in 37 universities involving 40,000 volunteers, the scheme has grown over the years and it is implemented today with an involvement of more than 3.8 million volunteers spread over in 396 Universities, Polytechnics and 47 Councils of +2 level. The efforts of NSS volunteers have been widely acclaimed by the community, universities, colleges and general public as the NSS volunteers have been rendering selfless service to the community.

Motto:

The Motto of NSS "Not Me But You", reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the student’s development & appreciation to other person's point of view and also show consideration towards other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is a good doctrine in this motto, which underlines on the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.

NSS Logo;

The logo for the NSS has been based on the giant Rath Wheel of the world famous Konark Sun Temple (The Black Pagoda) situated in Orissa, India. The Red & Blue colors contained in the logo motivate the NSS Volunteers to be active & energetic for the nation-building social activities. The wheel portrays the cycle of creation, preservation and release and signifies the movement in life across time and space, The wheel thus stands for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving of NSS for social change.

NSS Badge;

The NSS logo is embossed on the badge of NSS. The eight bars in the wheel of NSS logo represent the 24 hours of a day. The red colour indicates that the volunteer is full of young blood that is lively, active, energetic and full of high spirit. The navy blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSS is tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.
